PrEP-Check

CHECKPOINT KARLSRUHE offers the PrEP check in addition to the usual HIV and STI tests. PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) refers to the use of HIV medication to prevent HIV infection. The prerequisite for PrEP is that regular examinations are carried out at the same time as taking the medication, including examinations for sexually transmitted infections and kidney tests. These tests are called PrEP checks.

The "PrEP check" is aimed exclusively at people who have been prescribed PrEP by a doctor but do not have the opportunity to have the PrEP check carried out. A prescription for PrEP itself is not possible at CHECKPOINT KARLSRUHE. The costs for the PrEP check cannot be covered by statutory or private health insurance and must be borne by the patient.

The PrEP examinations include tests for HIV, STIs (chlamydia, gonococci, syphilis), hepatitis B and C.

HIV-PrEP - in addition to using a condom and practising safer sex - has been a proven method of protecting against HIV infection by taking HIV medication for several years. The medical guidelines focus in particular on men who have sex with men.
