STI tests

STI means sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonococcus and syphilis.

Often these infections are asymptomatic and go unnoticed. However, the pathogens damage the mucous membranes, which promotes the transmission of HIV. Men who have sex with men are the most frequently affected by HIV compared with other population groups. They should therefore be tested once or twice a year for other STIs in addition to HIV.

However, we offer everyone - regardless of gender and sexual orientation - the opportunity to test for STI on

- chlamydia
- gonococcus
- syphilis
- hepatitis B
- hepatitis C

to be tested.

Like the HIV test, the STI tests are carried out by medical professionals.

You will know the result after one week.

ATTENTION:
Tests for chlamydia and gonococci:
- Men* put some urine into a sample cup. Therefore, please do not urinate immediately before the appointment so that there is enough urine!
- Women* carry out a vaginal smear test on themselves. When making an appointment, please make sure that you do not have your period on the day of the test, as menstrual blood can falsify the result!

^{For women up to 25 years of age, the cost of a Chlamydia test is covered by the health insurance once a year if the test is carried out by medical personnel. Therefore, it makes sense for women in this age group to have themselves tested at their routine gynaecological appointment. If a chlamydia infection is diagnosed, the gynaecologist can also initiate an appropriate therapy.}
