Training events for nurses/medical staff
We offer information events in hospitals and outpatient care services especially for nurses, medical specialists and obstetricians.
There are two topics to choose from:
HIV/AIDS
We give lectures on topics such as HIV transmission routes, protection options and medical treatment options for HIV infection. The social situation of people with HIV occupies a special place.
The focus of the event is on dealing with HIV-positive patients in nursing care. Here we want to encourage people to deal with their own fears and prejudices in order to make care free of discrimination possible. It is also important for us to reflect attitudes towards different gender identities and sexual orientations.
We come to hospitals, outpatient nursing services as well as schools for the sick and the elderly. We are happy to invite smaller groups to our counselling centre. According to our experience, two or three lessons make sense. For each 45-minute lesson we charge a fee of 75 euros + travel costs (as of March 2019).
Diversity
With the “Diversity and care” offer, we support people who work in the care sector: What is important when caring for queer people, and what does a discrimination-sensitive approach look like?
Sexuality is a central part of our lives - right into old age! Sexuality will therefore always play a role in holistic care. But which one? Most people will see themselves as men or women - but not everyone. For example, there are people who do not want to be clearly assigned to one gender. Furthermore, most people will classify themselves as “heterosexual”. But this is only one form of sexual orientation. There are people who see themselves as “gay”, “lesbian” or “bisexual”, for example.
It is therefore important in care to see people in their sexual diversity. This requires basic knowledge and a certain understanding of different gender identities and sexual orientations. With our training course “Care and sexual diversity”, we want to lay the foundations for both.
The training course offers:
- Information on the life situations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, intersex and queer people (LGBTIQ* people)
- Raising awareness of the connections between the life experiences of LGBTIQ* people and the care situation
Ideas on how LGBTIQ*-sensitive care can be implemented
